I know it's a bit out of place and time, but I'm working on some greeting cards at the moment. So happy Easter :)

Sketch dump November

Well, these are all going to get somewhere eventually. I'll start illustrating again very soon. I'm putting this up now so that I won't look completely lazy... :)

Santa's taken over!

Yes, it finally happened: I gave up and started making greeting cards with Santa Claus. But if I'm going down, I might as well do it in style! I generally tried to keep to faces, except for the last illustration, which, overall turned out to be a good vector illustration practise I think.

On another note, as to why I haven't been updating my blog as much as I should have, especially since it's getting more followers as well: I have recently moved and it was a mission! On the other hand I'm trying to revamp my Folksy & Dawanda shops and hopefully, soon I'll have more products too.
But it's time I get back into illustration, and I'll do just that. Expect more stuff soon!

One Baba Yagaesque character for the Halloween! I just love the idea of old ladies terrorizing people in flying household items. :)

Coming back...

Hopefully, this might be the start of another an-illustration-per-week self challenge, although as busy as I am at the moment, not really sure when I could find the time to draw again...

And now for something completely different...

I've been quite busy with non-work-related things lately, but I did manage to squeeze in a few jobs. These logo designs are the rejected ones, but I still like them.

By the way, I plan to start another an-illustration-a-week marathon again soon.

A commission

Here's my first greeting card commission! Some of you in the US and Canada will be able to see it on the shelves soon! I'll also start selling some of my other card designs in my Folksy and DaWanda shops soon, too. It's been quite busy lately, working on the budgeting of a possible project.
And my illustration's finally up on Drawgasmic website... Also if by any chance you live in / near Saint Louis, MO, you could have a look at it in person.
Back to work!

This is what's happening

My Curious Cat badges were featured at Odd Sox's Badgetastic Folksy Friday! Check it out for some other great badges!

I've got rid of my flu, came back from my Cornwall trip, and now it's time to put my life back in order. I'm working on something big right now, but i'd like to make sure it's certain before I tell more about it. In the meantime, I won't really have any time to illustrate, but i might do some moodboards sometime.

I feel guilty when I don't update with an illustration. So here's an old doodle that I like :)

New events

My illustration Leisure Cat - November will be on Drawgasmic exhibition and book! Have a look:
Drawgasmic Art Exhibition - The Art, Illustration, and Design Compendium

Also there's a possibility of an animation project in the horizon, so I had to give a break to my illustration work. More details should come soon.

Gingerbread animals

Carrying on with the greeting cards, now I'm making the gingerbread animals into a set of 4.

Finally, these colourings over, I can go back to making the previous greeting cards into sets of 4... And once that's finished, I'll get back on more children's book illustration...

Children's illustration, style issues and new inspirations

When I was a child, since Disney was pretty much the highest quality animation we could get in Turkey back then, I had an obsession, drawing in that style. And throughout my animation and illustration work, that style was stuck with me. Finally, last year, I had a resolution to get rid of it completely, and worked really hard all past year to try different styles and new things. And now that I look at my recent illustrations, i believe i did a pretty good work... but perhaps too good. Now my work is way too eclectic, it's even hard to tell 2 pieces came from the same hand. I'm not sure if it's a good thing or bad thing. In animation, I've always supported the view that the style should not define the film, but vice versa, and like in one of my favorite animators, Gil Alkabetz's work, i think it's actually a good thing to apply different styles and techniques depending on the piece, at least in animation, but I'm not so sure in illustration. It sometimes seems that people like to know what to expect from an artist, and most of the important artists (both classical and contemporary) have some sort of set style, or at least different style periods...
So anyway... where I'm going to with this topic is, after a big rush of greeting cards sets, now I'm giving a little break and starting to work on my children's illustration portfolio again. And maybe it might be a good idea to try to find a set style of my own. If you have any opinions, you're welcome to share!
Oh and this week was pretty good for me for discovering some artists, and in case you haven't heard of them (i'm sure most of you have!) they're great inspiration!

A Survivor in the Bauble Sea

I've been baubled out!!! The trouble with this style of drawing, you have to hand draw every single thing, any type of duplication stands out too much... But i've had enough by the end of it! And this one's also for my greeting cards collection...

Thursday, 8 April 2010

Even more cards...

It's a busy week, doing type of things i've never done before... It's quite fun working like this though... Soon I will give a break to my greeting cards and will go back to my children's illustrations.

Current work

Still alive, with my both hands deep in illustration... I'm currently working on some greeting cards, and working a bit more on my children's illustration portfolio. Some character designs are coming soon!

Laters...

It's just something i did playing around with an online application, and added colours afterwards. My head will be buried in 3D tutorials, my animated short and my work from now on, so I might not be able to post illustrations often.... but i will try. :)
